The Previous Set: Aetherdrift - February 14, 2025

Aetherdrift is the second most recent release, launching on February the 14th, 2025. The theme of Aetherdrift is a death race! Race through the multiverse in Aetherdrift.
New Mechanics in Aetherdrift
Aetherdrift has introduced several new mechanics, revolving around vehicles and aneed for speed. These mechanics are as follows: Start Your Engines, Speed, Exhaust, Vehicle, and Crew.
Start Your Engines and Speed
Start your engines is a new mechanic that does exactly what it says! When a card with start your engines is played, if you have no speed you start at 1. Speed increases one on each of your turns that an opponent takes damage, increasing by 1 each time. You achieve max speed at 4.
A lot of new cards have special effects for when you hit max speed, buffing themselves or drawing cards.
Exhaust
Exhaust is a new mechanic which are activated abilities that can only be activated one time. The exception to this is if that permanent leaves the battlefield and then returns, it can now play the exhausted ability again. Nothing groundbreaking, but a solid mechanic.
Vehicles and Crew
Vehicles are artifacts that become creatures on your turn, and return to being artifacts on turns other than yours. Utilise crew to tap any number of creatures you control whose power is greater than or equal to the vehicle's cost to activate.
Latest Set: Tarkir: Dragonstorm - April 11, 2025

Tarkir: Dragonstorm is the latest set that has finally returned us to the beloved plane of Tarkir, where dragons rein supreme and ancient clans view for dominance. Released on April 11, 2025, Dragonstorm brings back the iconic clans and introduces thrilling new cards.
Mechanics in Tarkir: Dragonstorm
Here are some of the Mechanics featured in the set, but there are many more.
Bolster
Bolster enhances a creature by placing +1/+1 counters on the one with the least toughness. If there's a tie, you choose which creature to bolster.
Dash
Dash Provides an alternative casting cost for creatures, granting them haste. At the end of the turn, the creature returns to your hand. This mechanic gives you the opportunity for surprise attacks whilst keeping the permanent in the safety of your hand.
Exploit
Exploit is a mechanic that when a creature with exploit enters the battlefield exploit will allow you to sacrifice another (you don't have to sacrifice!). If you do, you gain an additional effect specified on the card. You can even sacrifice the creature with exploit itself.
Formidable
Formidable abilities become active when the total power of creatures you control is 8 or greater. These abilities often grant powerful effects, rewarding aggressive strategies and board presence.
Megamorph
Megamorph is pretty much the same as morph. Megamorph turns creatures faceup by paying their megamorph cost and puts a +1/+1 counter on the creature.
Rebound
Rebound allows you to cast an instant or sorcery spell a second time for free. When you cast a spell with Rebound from your hand, it's exiled as it resolves. At the beginning of your next upkeep, you may cast it again without paying its mana cost.
Final Fantasy x Magic: The Gathering - June 13, 2025
The extremely hyped Final Fantasy X MTG Universes Beyond set arrives on June 13, 2025. A celebration of a much beloved franchise. This crossover brings many favourite and iconic characters from the franchise such as: Cloud, Tidus, Y’shtola and Terra - all of who are getting their own commander decks!
This set is also going to be standard legal which may shake up the meta. One of the most talked about cards that we have seen so far is the “Jumbo Cactuar”. Whenever Jumbo Cactuar attacks, it gets +9999/+0 until the end of the turn. Jumbo Cactuar and Fling might end up being a bit of a menace combo!
Edge of Eternities - August 01, 2025
Launching on the 1st of August, Edge of eternities introduces a brand-new plane with a cosmic theme and lore sitting on the outer edge of the multiverse. EOE is a full standard set introducing new planets and alien factions. We currently do not know much about this set but we will update as and when we find out more information!
Spiderman x Magic The Gathering - September 26, 2025
Swinging into MTG on September 26th, the Spider-Man x MTG set is part of the universes beyond Marvel series - and it's a big one!
So far we know that the set will be featuring: Venom, Green Goblin, Doc Ock and Spiderman (with spiderman having the spider creature typing!)
Creature typings
Creature typing's we have seen from spoiler cards are: Symbiote Villain, Goblin Human Villain, Human Scientist Villain, Spider Human Hero. These may hint towards new mechanics relating around Hero and Villain typing's as well as boosting existing synergies.

Avatar The Last Airbender x Magic The Gathering - November 21, 2025
The recently announced Avatar The Last Airbender and Magic The Gathering collab is another massive announcement for 2025! Since it is only recently announced all we have to go off is what we can infer. Stylistically this is a fantastic collab with all the elemental overlap!
Speculation
We can infer from it being "Avatar The Last Airbender" that we will be seeing Aang and other iconic characters from the original series being featured in this. Although with the new series "Avatar: Seven Havens" announced this year - it wouldn't be a big jump to assume we may get some features from new characters, or even from fan-favorites from The Legend of Korra.
We will update this with more information as and when get it! For now (if you haven't seen it) check out the announcement trailer below.
